Space and time, and hence, NW and WF can be hard to describe because there is no concrete definition of them (no real-world-experience way to talk about what they are). We assume that because we cross the room from one end to the other; a certain finite space, in a certain amount of time, that we know what these terms and intervals mean. Often conflating, or worse, using the terms ‘space’ and ‘place’ interchangeably, as if place were merely an informal word for space. It is both our familiarity with these concepts and the complexity of their meaning, some would say vague, or nuanced, that results in the difficulty. Therefore we are stuck with linear or cyclical analogies (continuums) or sequences of events, pieces of land or property divided as inside or outside, but lack a specialized language of symbols, like correspondences in Neoplatonism, or the doctrine of signatures in biology, that tie these concepts back to lived experience, the life world. The best we have is our experience of place and the relationships between the phenomena and the noumena that phenomenology provides.
It is therefore my project to link phenomenology to the ‘realist mysticism’ of the early quantum physicists; Heisenberg, Schrödinger, Bohm, Bohr and contemporary theorists in consciousness studies; Kastrup, Campbell and Hoffman, using pre-existing symbolic language (principles) that have been present in the mystical traditions for millennia. For instance the Tao, I Ching, Vedanta, and Platonic forms that we can apply to physics in order to construct still more powerful symbols/ models capable of communicating many ideas at once. Which is why I have put the NW mode and the WF mode into a single phenomenological model of The World, or Place to describe the continuity of one’s subjective experience in the presence of objects, persons and events. Where Northwestern, implies space (the particle, position, juxtaposition) and is more concrete i.e. relativity, while Wildflower is a term I use to group elements and ideas about the time aspect (wave, momentum, displacement) of place together, quantum mechanics.
The two concepts forming a whole more than the sum of its parts (TOE), just as time and space on their own combine to form time-space. And since it is not a scientific theory, I am free to incorporate elements from several different disciplines including psychology, phenomenology, physics (which implies technology), mysticism (which implies magic) and ideas in modern poetics, subjectivism vs. objectivism (all of which will be discussed later).
In addition to distinctions between time and space, particle and wave, position and momentum there is also the distinction between realist and idealist where NW is the realist, physicalist pole, while WF is the idealist, mind-centered, consciousness pole. Objects and events in WF are blurred into an amorphous no time, whereas in NW, they maintain their structure and distinction through the artificial boundaries of inside and out, near and far, here and there, and then and now. The latter being the nearest point of osculation between the poles. Then and now in time turning into as much now as it was then, and a dissolution of boundaries that space and realism have imposed.
